HRI were appointed with co-designers the Hurd Rolland Partnership for this exemplar project; the design and specification was developed to illustrate best practice and future possibilities in timber design and technologies, obtain a BREEAM "Excellent" rating and minimise the carbon footprint of the development.

The building utilises a range of Scottish sourced timber and "green" technologies, including passive stack ventilation; grey water recycling; biomass heating; and minimisation of road miles in materials transportation. It is an early example of the new generation of sustainable public buildings which will dramatically develop the sustainability agenda in construction.
