Projects large ...

In a climate where housing is increasingly beyond the reach of first time buyers and what is available is too often of low quality, HRI are working with developers UBC and the Highland Housing Alliance to develop a new approach to masterplanning and construction with 114 houses in Ardersier; these will incorporate high levels of ‘off site’ panellisation and construction times on site will be radically reduced, leading to lower costs for purchasers. A very high quality of ‘placemaking’ and landscaping is being designed to make the housing groups and courtyards unique and create a strong sense of place for residents.

HRI have proposed a radical remodelling and extension of Hedgefield house in Inverness to form the new group HQ for Tulloch homes. Still at consultation stage, the project will integrate the high quality land and tree scape with contemporary architecture and the listed 19th century house.

The growing market for plant and garden supplies has led to a radical expansion of local firm Simpsons Garden Centres’ site at Inshes in Inverness. HRI’s design for Simpsons will triple their retail space on the site and introduce new facilities and catering spaces.

... and small

Brahan Estates, near Maryburgh, are working with RSPB to open a feeding station and visitor / interpretive facility for the growing Red Kite population in that area. HRI are converting a former steading for this purpose; a ‘light touch’ small design requiring no mains services and minimal alteration!

We are currently altering and extending Skelbo House at Embo, Sutherland; altering the listed Contin Church; and working on ‘one off’ housing in Watten, Caithness; Nigg; Nairn; and Helmsdale.

CEE ...
Following a competitive bid process, HRI have been appointed by HIE for the design of a major project in Caithness; the proposed Centre for Energy and the Environment in Thurso, which will bring together laboratory and environmental research facilities for UKAEA and UHI, together with Archaeologists AOC. This £10M project offers an exciting opportunity to bring Caithness to the forefront of environmental research.
